Working in Dialog Boxes

Many of Word's commands result in a dialog box. Word uses dialog boxes to obtain additional information required to carry out a command. Each dialog box is different, but they all use the same basic elements.

In a dialog box, press the Tab key to move from item to item; press Shift+Tab to move backwards. You can click an item or press Alt plus the underlined letter to select an item. When the dialog box selections are complete, press Enter or click the OK button to accept your entries and carry out the command. Click the Cancel button or press Esc to close the dialog box without carrying out the command.
