Lesson 9. Fonts, Borders, and Shading > Using Boldface, Italics, and Underlinin...

Using Boldface, Italics, and Underlining

You can display any of Word's fonts in boldface, italics, or underlined. You can also use two or three of these effects in combination. As with other formatting, you can apply these effects to existing text by first selecting the text, or to text you are about to type.

The quickest way to assign boldface, italics, or underlining is with the buttons on the Formatting toolbar. Click a button to turn the corresponding attribute on; click it again to turn it off. When the cursor is at a location where one of these attributes is turned on, the corresponding toolbar button will appear depressed.
