Formatting Your Outline

When you create an outline, you actually apply styles to the headings in your document. The styles determine your document's formatting. Unless you redefine Heading 1 for your document, for example, the style applies the Arial font in 14-point size, boldface, with extra space before and after the heading.

If you want to format your document's headings differently than the predefined heading styles, you must redefine the heading styles. If you want to format your outline's Level 1 headings differently, for example, you must redefine the Heading 1 style.
