Part V: Mastering Special Features > Working with Math and Equations

Chapter 24. Working with Math and Equations

  • Perform calculations in a table

Enter a formula in a table using data from individual or a range of table cells.

  • Perform calculations on numbers occurring within text

Use bookmark names and fields to perform calculations using numbers that are throughout a document.

  • Create an equation

Templates and symbol palettes make it easy to create equations with proper positioning and spacing.

  • Format an equation

You can change spacing, font, font size, and adjust positioning and alignment of any element in an equation.

  • Work with matrices

Select from predefined matrix or vector sizes using the Matrix template palette.

  • View, edit, and print equations

You can select between three equation magnifications to aid in editing an equation. Editing is performed using the Equation Editor. You can also print your equations on certain printers.

Have you ever wanted to perform calculations on the numbers in a Word table you created, and have the results automatically updated if the figures in the table change, much as you would in a spreadsheet? Or perhaps you would like to perform a calculation on numbers scattered throughout a document, without searching for each number and then performing the math yourself. Word 97 simplifies these tasks.
