Searching for Files

If you can't find the file you want after browsing through the drives and folders, you can click the Find Now button in the Open dialog box. Word offers powerful search capabilities that enable you to search for files by file name, location, author, and the date the files were created or last saved. Alternatively, you can use the information you entered in the Properties dialog box. You also can search for specific text that occurs in a document.

With the Find Now button, you can bring together a list of related files or find a specific file. The search can be narrow; for example, you can look for a particular file with a familiar file name. You also can search for a group of files that match whatever criteria you specify. The more you narrow the search, the fewer the files you will find.
