Managing Files

You can accomplish many tasks with the files listed in the Open dialog box. You can open, print, copy, or delete a file or a group of selected files—all from this dialog box. Being able to select more than one file at a time from the list is a tremendous time-saver. For example, if you want to print several files at once, you can select them and issue one print command. This approach is much simpler and quicker than opening each file, one by one from within Word, and printing them separately. You can use the same approach to copy or delete groups of files. Being able to do something to several files simultaneously, as well as being able to preview the contents of a file without having to open it, makes the process of managing your files much smoother and easier.

Displaying and Selecting Files for File Management

Before you issue various commands to manage your files, you need to display the file or files you want to work with. If the files are in the same folder, you can simply change to that folder. If the files are in different folders, you can use a search to group the files together. Searching for files is covered later in this chapter in the section "Searching for Files."
