Working with Frames

Earlier versions of Word included a feature called "frames" rather than text boxes. They are similar to text boxes, but lack some of the advantages of text boxes. They do occasionally still appear in Word documents, however. Drop caps arrive formatted as frames, for example, as do certain text annotations, such as footnotes, endnotes, and comments. And there is one instance when you might want to convert a text box to a frame—when you want to remove a text box and its formatting without removing its contents.

To remove a text box without removing its contents, follow these steps:
