Chapter 25. Inserting Pictures > Getting Ready to Insert Pictures

Getting Ready to Insert Pictures

Word is compatible with many of the most frequently used graphics programs and scanner formats. For some formats, you don't need a special import filter. For others you do need a filter, and you must install these filters when you set up Word or Office or rerun the Word or Office Setup program to install them later. From the Options list, select Converters and Filters.

To import pictures into a document, Word uses specialimport filters. One filter is required for each type of file you want to import. If you selected the Complete Setup option when you installed Word, all the graphics import filters were put into your system. If you selected a Custom installation, you might not have installed all the filters. To see which filters are installed (and consequently which types of graphics you are able to import), read the contents of the Files of Type list in the Insert Picture dialog box. This dialog box appears when you chooseInsert, Picture, From File.
