Part VII: Handling Large Documents > Tracking Revisions and Versions

Chapter 32. Tracking Revisions and Versions

  • Track changes and edits so that they are easy to see and can be accepted or rejected

Revision bars appear in the margin showing the location of changes. You can then accept or reject the changes.

  • Roll forward or back through versions of the document

Manage document changes by versions. Be able to see how a document evolves through its different versions. Delete changes made in a version.

  • Compare two documents to see what has changed

Two documents with different names or different locations can be compared. Revision marks are added to the current document when a difference between the two is encountered.

  • Comment a document with remarks or notes that do not print with the main document

Inserting comments in a document is a convenient way of attaching notes to specific parts of a document.

Because you don't work in a vacuum, Word 97 is ready to work with other people, too—right on your computer screen. Using the Track Changes and Comments features, you can eliminate errors and time spent transferring changes from paper to computer. Soon after you start using these features, you may wonder how you ever did without them.
