Understanding Windows and Word 97 Terms

All Windows applications, including Word 97, require keyboard and mouse actions to select what is changed on-screen or to give commands. By learning the actions named in Table 2.4, you will know how to operate menus and select items within any Windows application.

Table 2.4. Windows and Word Actions
ActionDescription
SelectHighlight or mark a section of text, menu name, command, dialog box option, or graphical object with the keyboard or with mouse actions.
ChooseExecute and complete a command. You may execute some commands when you select the menu command. Other commands execute when you choose OK from a dialog box.
ActivateBring an application or document window to the foreground. When you are working with more than one application or more than one document within Word, the active window is the window you are working in.
