Chapter 2. Getting Started in Word > Understanding the Word 97 Screen

Understanding the Word 97 Screen

One advantage of Windows is the ability to run several applications and display them all on-screen simultaneously. Chapter 36, "Using Word with Office Applications," describes how to run Word 97 and other Windows applications together and transfer information among them. This capability can save you time when you transfer data into or out of Word 97, create automatically updated links from Word 97 and other Windows applications, or embed Word 97 data into other Windows application documents.

Each Windows application, like Word 97, runs in its own application window. Because some application windows can contain multiple document windows, you can work simultaneously with more than one document. Figure 2.2 shows the Word 97 application window with two document windows inside.
