Numbering Lines

Line numbers are useful in preparing manuscripts or legal documents, for reference, or if you simply need to know how many lines of text are on a page, in a poem, or in a document. You can choose the starting number for line numbering, the distance between numbers and text, the interval at which line numbers appear, and whether line numbering restarts with every new page or section or continues throughout your section. You can suppress line numbering for a specific paragraph or paragraphs.

Adding Line Numbers

You can add line numbers to sections of a document or to the entire document if it isn't formatted into sections. For information about formatting a document in sections, see Chapter 13, "Formatting the Page Layout, Alignment, and Numbering."
