Chapter 5. Editing a Document > Correcting Spelling Errors as You Type

Correcting Spelling Errors as You Type

Almost every typist has at least one or two typing mistakes that are made frequently. The Word AutoCorrect feature recognizes common typing mistakes and automatically substitutes the correct spelling for you. You also can use AutoCorrect to automatically type long words from an abbreviation. You could use AutoCorrect to automatically type the phrase not applicable, for example, every time you type the abbreviation na.

The AutoCorrect feature can also correct accidental usage of the Caps Lock key, automatically capitalize the first word of every sentence, and automatically capitalize the names of days of the week.
