Chapter 5. Editing a Document > Inserting Frequently Used Material

Inserting Frequently Used Material

The Word AutoText feature is like word processing shorthand. It saves you time by storing selected text and graphics (and their formatting) that are used repeatedly. If you have a long company name that you frequently must type in documents, for example, you can abbreviate it as AutoText and insert it with only a few keystrokes. AutoText also ensures that repetitive material is typed correctly and consistently. If you create templates for standardized documents, you should consider including AutoText entries in the templates for frequently used words, phrases, formats, or pictures. (A template provides a guide or pattern for creating specific types of documents.)
