Chapter 5. Editing a Document > Marking Locations with Bookmarks

Marking Locations with Bookmarks

A bookmark in Word is a specific named item. The item can be a portion of the document—including text, graphics, or both—or it can simply be a specific location. Spreadsheet users will readily recognize the concept—bookmarks are similar to named ranges in a worksheet.

Use bookmarks to move quickly to a given point in a document, or to mark text or graphics for efficient moving, copying, indexing, or cross-referencing. Bookmarks also are vital when you create a macro that performs an operation on a specific portion of a document.
