Chapter 5. Editing a Document > Controlling Your Document's Appearance On-Scree...

Controlling Your Document's Appearance On-Screen

In Word, you can display your document in the way that best fits what you need to do. As you work, you can use Normal view to see the body text as it will print, use Outline view for outline expansion or contraction, and use Page Layout view to see the entire page exactly as it will print, including columns, headers, footers, and page numbers.

You can use Master Document view to simplify the creation and reorganization of long documents and Online Layout view to make it easier to tell how your document will appear when you publish it online. Full Screen view can be set to display only your document text, excluding all other screen elements. In each of these views you can type, format, and edit. A seventh view, File, Print Preview, shows thumbnail pictures of how pages will print and enables you to make last-minute adjustments and edits before printing. The sections that follow describe the various Word views.
