Chapter 27. Drawing with Word's Drawing ... > What You Need to Know About Drawing

What You Need to Know About Drawing

When you decide to add graphics to your document, you will be working directly on the page. You are not restricted by your page margins or by where your text is placed. To create a drawing, you will use the Drawing toolbar to select a tool and then use it to draw the shape on your document.

When you first create the drawing object or shape, it will appear on top of any text. You do not have to worry about disturbing the text. Your document exists in three layers. There is the text layer and a layer above and below the text. When you create a drawing shape, it is in the layer above the text. After it is created, you can move the drawing to one of the other layers if desired.
