Assigning Commands and Macros to Shortcut Keys

Shortcut keys enable you to perform routine operations quickly without moving from the keyboard to the mouse. You should consider assigning shortcut keys to frequently used menu options.

Word has many predefined shortcut keys already built into the program. Pressing Ctrl+B, for example, applies boldface to selected text. These key combinations are global; they work with all documents unless they have been deleted. Like custom menus and toolbars, shortcut keys follow the template hierarchy that was described at the beginning of this chapter.
