Chapter 37. Customizing and Optimizing W... > Improving the Performance of Word

Improving the Performance of Word

Depending on the work that you do and the capability of your computer, Word may not perform as fast as DOS-based word processors. 80486 computers, minimum RAM memory, large graphics files, and long tables can make Word perform more slowly. You can make a number of trade-offs, however, to improve the speed of Word.

Modifying Word for Windows Settings

You can improve Word's performance by choosing certain options within Word. Significant performance improvements also can be made by increasing the memory available to Windows or by increasing the effective speed of your computer's hard disk.
