Chapter 31. Creating Indexes and Tables ... > Formatting Tables of Contents and Ot...

Formatting Tables of Contents and Other Tables

If you format a table of contents, table of figures, or other table by using the format commands or the Formatting toolbar and ruler, that formatting will be lost if you update the entire table (updating page numbers only does not affect formatting). You can use two methods to format tables of contents, tables of figures, or other tables so that formatting is not lost when tables are updated.

  • Apply formatting to the table by editing the styles used by the table.

  • Use switches that are inserted in the TOC or TOA field to add or preserve formatting.
