Building Forms

Building a simple form is a three-part process. First, you create a new template and build the form structure—the framework for the form—and add labels, formatting, shading, and borders, and anything else that won't change when users fill in the form. Next, you insert form fields where you want to type information when you fill in the form. Finally, you protect and save the form.

Creating and Saving the Form Structure

Before you begin designing a form on your computer, sketching it out on paper may be helpful, particularly if you're using a table as the structure for the form. By sketching out the form, you'll know how many rows and columns you need in your table, and you'll know where to type labels and where to insert form fields. Even if you change the form as you go, it's easier to start with a plan.
