Chapter 2. Starting Your Presentation > Creating a New Presentation

Creating a New Presentation

When you first start PowerPoint by selecting it from the Programs section of the Windows taskbar, a dialog box like the one in Figure 2.1 appears. This dialog box offers four options for opening a presentation:

  • AutoContent Wizard. Walks you step-by-step through creating a new presentation. This is probably the best choice for those new to PowerPoint.

  • Template. Opens a second dialog box which offers you a choice of built-in design templates to base a new presentation on.

  • Blank Presentation. Opens a presentation with no elements or design background in place. This selection offers the most flexibility in creating your own presentation elements from scratch.

  • Open an Existing Presentation. Opens a browse dialog box to locate a PowerPoint file that has previously been saved.
