Chapter 5. Notes Pages and Handouts > Using Handouts Effectively

Using Handouts Effectively

When you print Handouts, you can print two, three, or six slide pictures per page. The two-per-page Handouts have much larger pictures, but there is no space for the users to take notes. On the three-per-page Handouts, one column prints with lines for user notes. The six-per-page Handouts also lack room for notes. The type of Handout you choose to print depends on how much information you want to leave with your audience and how you want them to use the materials you give them.

A speaker once told me that he never gives printouts of any sort to the audience until after his presentation because he doesn't want them rustling papers during his speech. He also doesn't want his audience to read ahead of him, and thus miss what he was saying. I prefer to give handouts with room for the audience to write notes, because I believe people remember what is said better if they write it down.
