Chapter 11. Formatting a Chart > Formatting Data Series

Formatting Data Series

At the heart of the chart are the data series themselves, those colorful bars/pie slices/bubbles, and more that you hope will both clearly convey information and capture your viewers' interest.

To format a data series, select it from the Chart Objects pull-down menu and click the Format button. In the resulting dialog box, you're given different options depending on which kind of chart you're working with. These include variations in the shape of data markers; plus options to add error markers (which indicate the margin of error in a data point) and drop lines (which tie data points in a line or area chart to a particular value), change the gap between categories in bar graphs, rotate the pie in pie graphs, and make it all one color or multicolored and more.
