How Charts Work

Charts are visual metaphors. In words, you might say, "Think of our total expenditures as a giant pie. The largest slice of the pie is salaries…" A pie chart makes that metaphor visible and, in the process, makes it more easily understood. This is demonstrated in Figures 10.1 and 10.2.
