What is a Macro?

If you're new to macros, the first order of business is to understand just what a macro is. In simple terms, a macro is a series of commands that are all executed in sequence. For example, you might describe the series of steps associated with making a cup of instant coffee as the following:

  1. Go into the kitchen.

  2. Find the tea kettle.

  3. Add water to the tea kettle.

  4. Put the tea kettle on the burner.

  5. Turn on the burner (the one with the tea kettle on it).

  6. Wait until the water in the tea kettle boils.

  7. Turn off the burner.

  8. Add a teaspoonful of instant coffee to an empty coffee cup.

  9. Pour the boiling water into the coffee cup.

  10. Add milk or cream and sugar, if desired.
