Using Add-In Programs

The add-in programs that ship with Excel are stored in files ending with the XLA extension. Additional files needed by the add-ins use the extension XLL and DLL. You can find them in the LIBRARY folder in the OFFICE folder. The OFFICE folder is located in the \PROGRAM FILES\MICROSOFT OFFICE folder. These XLA files are special macros that add features to Excel as though the features were built-in. To access the add-ins, you need to install the add-in files and also activate the add-ins. In this section, you learn how to start these add-in macros and how to manage them. To learn how you can make your own recorded or written macros into add-ins, and learn more about Visual Basic for Applications programming, read Special Edition Using Visual Basic for Applications , also published by Que.
