Chapter 31. Solving with Goal Seek and Solver > Using the Goal Seek Feature

Using the Goal Seek Feature

When you know the answer you want, and you must work backward to find the input value that gives you that answer, choose Tools, Goal Seek. With this command, you specify a target value for a formula cell (the goal) and then an input cell that should be changed to make the goal cell reach this target. Excel finds the input value that results in the specific answer you want. To do so, the command operates as if it were making repeated educated guesses, narrowing in on the exact value.
