Inserting Legends

A legend explains the markers or symbols used in a chart. Excel creates legends from the labels on the shorter side of the worksheet data series. Figure 16.43 shows an example of a legend. The legend in the figure was customized with border, pattern, and font selections. To learn about working with borders, patterns, and fonts, see Chapter 17, "Formatting Charts."
