Formatting Dates and Times

Excelcando date and time calculations, but to do so, you must enter dates and times in a way that Excel recognizes. You can usually type dates and times in cells the way you are accustomed to reading or writing them. Excel recognizes dates and times entered in any of the formats shown in Table 5.3. If you type the date 1/12/97 into a cell with the default General format and then press Enter, for example, Excel formats the cell in the m/d/yy date format.
