Chapter 5. Formatting Worksheets > Aligning and Rotating Text and Numbers

Aligning and Rotating Text and Numbers

In an unformatted cell, text aligns against the left edge of the column, and numbers align against the right edge. To enhance your worksheet, you can align values or formula results so that they are left, right, or centered in a cell. You also can align a title across a selection of cells, which enables you to easily center a heading over a table or report. You can fill cells with a character that you specify, such as a dash or an equal sign, to create lines across your worksheet. You can rotate text within a cell. Excel also wraps words within a cell so that you can put a readable paragraph within one cell, or shrinks text to fit within a cell.
