Creating Conditional Sums

A new feature in Excel 97, the Conditional Sum Wizard, enables you to sum only the data in a list that meets specified criteria. What the Conditional Sum Wizard actually does is build a SUM formula using IF statements to test if specific conditions are true. You can specify more than one condition to fine-tune your sums report. Only those values that meet the conditions are included in the sum. You could build the same formula yourself by typing it directly into the formula bar, but the Conditional Sum Wizard greatly simplifies the task, especially if you are testing multiple conditions. An example using the data list in this chapter would be to sum the total unit sales for all items with a price greater than $425.00.
