Creating Simple Subtotals

The subtotals provide a great deal of flexibility in the way you can summarize data. Using subtotals, you can do the following:

  • Tell Excel how to group the data

  • Display subtotals and grand totals for one set of groups in the list

  • Display subtotals and grand totals for several sets of groups in the list

  • Perform different calculations on the grouped data—count the items, total the items, average the items
