Chapter 1. Getting Acquainted with OneNote > Opening Folders and Sections

Opening Folders and Sections

To write or read notes, you must first open the folder where the notes are located. When you open a folder, OneNote also opens all the sections that were open the last time you closed the folder. For example, if two sections were open when you closed the folder, the two sections open automatically the next time you open the folder. To close a folder, right-click its tab and click Close on the shortcut menu. When you close a folder, all open sections in the folder close as well.

The fastest way to open a section is to open the File menu and click one of the four sections listed by default in the recently used file list at the bottom of the menu. If you want more or fewer sections to appear in this list, you can change the number of sections that appear by default. You can also open a section by double-clicking its name in Windows Explorer or My Computer.
