Part IV: Simply PowerPoint

Part IV: Simply PowerPoint

This next part of the book will be fast and furious fun. Hold on to your hat! Microsoft PowerPoint is a great presentation graphics tool—and one of my all-time favorite programs—that lets you create slides, handouts, and full-blown presentations complete with audio, video, and interactive features. PowerPoint makes it easy for you to make your point clearly and professionally, in a way that’s interesting and (hopefully) entertaining for your viewing audience.

In Chapter 11, “Creating a Presentation—From Start to Finish,” you’ll learn everything you need to know about preparing that first slide show. We won’t go into all the bells and whistles here (I save that for Chapter 13), but you’ll learn enough from Chapter 11 to put together your first presentation in 30 minutes or less.

Chapter 12, “Animating and Timing Your Presentation,” focuses on some of the more important aspects of creating a slide show—how your slides appear, act, and fade one into another, as well as the amount of time you allow viewers to read what you’ve displayed on the screen. This chapter guides you through the process of controlling the animations, timing, and transitions for individual slides as well as for entire presentations.

We get to pull out all the stops in Chapter 13, “Enhancing Your Presentation,” in which we discuss adding movies and sound to your presentations, recording narrations, and even broadcasting your presentation live to an audience. Fun stuff, eh?
