Key Points

  • As you begin receiving more and more e-mail, you’ll need to create folders to store messages you want to keep. You can create a new folder by clicking the New down arrow in the Outlook toolbar and choosing Folder (or by pressing Ctrl+Shift+E).

  • Move messages to folders easily by right-clicking the message group and choosing Move To Folder.

  • You can have Outlook automatically save messages to specific folders by using the Organize tool in the Outlook toolbar.

  • Rid your Inbox of junk e-mail (or color-code your e-mail so it will stand out) by choosing Junk E-mail in the Organize pane.

  • The Contacts feature in Outlook is an extensive data management tool that enables you to gather, update, sort, print, and use information about clients, companies, coworkers, and companions.

  • Journaling in Outlook enables you to keep track of the time you spend on specific tasks during the day.

  • Use Tasks to help you break down large projects into smaller, manageable chunks. You enter the task and due date and check off the tasks when they’re finished.

  • Outlook Notes are pop-up boxes you can leave open on your screen as you work to remind you of important things you might forget.
