Chapter 17. Getting Started with Databases  > What Can You Do with Access?

What Can You Do with Access?

Let’s start with the issue of function. What are you most likely to do with Access? There is an incredibly wide range of possibilities here. For example, you could use Access at home to do any of the following:

  • Create an inventory of your CD collection, complete with album title, artist name, song or track selections, and song or track durations or timings.

  • Organize all your monthly bills, citing the creditor, due date, amount, and balance.

  • Create a household inventory (nice for the insurance company to have) that lists individual items, tells what room they are in, estimates their value, and gives their quantity.

  • Finally put the names, birthdays, ages, and anniversaries for all your relatives in one place.

  • Create a list of all the books and videotaped movies you lend to friends (and never get back). You would track the item name, the type (book or movie), and the name, address, e-mail address, and phone number of the “borrower.”
