Changing Spacing

You may never have really noticed the spacing in a document until you began to create documents. If so, the spacing did its job, because you don’t notice the spacing in an effective document. Chances are you have experienced trying to read a document with too many words and paragraphs crammed on a page—and, if you’re like me, you tossed the document in the “read someday” pile instead of struggling through it.

Spacing in a document can make all the difference in the world, giving the readers’ eyes a break; giving readers time to think; helping them understand, through use of white space and formatting, where they need to begin reading on a page and what the most important points are. Word gives you quite a bit of control over the spacing of your paragraphs and lines. These sections show you how to use space to arrange your text the way you want it.
