Key Points

  • The most basic editing task in Excel is so simple you might miss it: Click the cell you want to correct and type in the new data.

  • You can copy, cut, and paste cells by first marking them as a block or a range and then using the commands on the Edit menu or the appropriate tools on the Standard toolbar.

  • When you clear cells, all data and formats are removed and the blank cells remain; when you delete cells, the data and the cells are removed from the worksheet.

  • You can use Excel’s AutoFormat feature to apply professional designs to the worksheet quickly.

  • The Format Cells dialog box (available when you right-click selected cells) contains all the options you need for controlling the format of cells on your worksheet.

  • You can add borders by clicking the Borders tool or working with the Draw Borders toolbar.

  • Protect your finished worksheet to guard against accidental or unauthorized deletions by choosing Protect Sheet from the Tools menu.

  • Print your worksheet or selected worksheet area quickly by clicking Print on the Standard toolbar or by selecting Print from the File menu and choosing your print options. To make sure that the pages will break correctly in your printed worksheet, choose Page Break Preview from the View menu.
