Kristen (project editor extraordinaire) would tell me not to say this, but I will anyway: This was a dream project. After writing literally dozens of technical books, I’ve learned that you’ve got to roll with the punches on these things. Sometimes you have a team that never quite clicks; other times you are blessed to work with a group of people you’d like to keep working with forever. This was one of those projects. I enjoy writing for Microsoft Press because it’s truly a collaborative effort—a team of professionals who treat each other with respect and truly care about giving you the best book possible. As we come to the end of this project, my special thank-yous go something like this:

First and foremost, to Kristen Weatherby, who is a smart, straight-shooting, fun, dog-loving publishing professional. Her guidance and suggestions are always right-on and she delivers even the bad news (we’re still over on page count?!) in a way that inspires me to think of solutions. I’m looking forward to working with you again, Kristen. :)

Thanks also to Alex Blanton, my acquisition editor at Microsoft Press, for thinking of me for this project and being wonderful (with an eye on deadlines, of course) all along the way. Again, a smart fellow who knows publishing and has a keen sense of how this can all fit together in the larger scheme of things.

More thanks to the folks at nSight, Inc., who did a fine, even-handed edit and kept working with that terrific design (and my chatty text) until everything fit in the pages you see before you. (And believe me, that was no small job.)Thanks also to the tech editor, Eric Faulkner, who netted out the small bugs I accidentally left floating in some of my procedures and who were a great help in letting me know where things could be clarified and improved. As always, thanks to Claudette Moore, my agent and friend at Moore Literary Agency, for providing just the right mix of support, encouragement, and push. She knows me well. :)
