Acquiring Web Data with Smart Tags

Another useful capability in Excel 2003 is that of bringing information from the Web that is related to the contents of a worksheet cell. The technology that accomplishes this is called Smart Tags.

The clearest example of how Smart Tags work is with stock symbols, the abbreviations of company names on stock market tickers. You can turn on Smart Tags and have Excel look for known stock symbols (such as Microsoft’s stock symbol, MSFT) and connect to a Web site that has information related to that symbol.
