Applying Formatting Restrictions

In Word 2003, you can restrict the available styles and formatting capabilities in a document. When you restrict formatting, users are able to open the document, but they can’t format text other than applying approved styles. Most of the character formatting tools on the Formatting toolbar, along with other text formatting tools (such as formatting keyboard commands and menu items), are inaccessible when a document has formatting restrictions applied. Furthermore, the Styles And Formatting task pane shows only the allowable styles. To restrict formatting, you use the Protect Document task pane and the Formatting Restrictions dialog box, as shown in Figure 28-8.
