Saving and Publishing Excel Files in HTML

When you save an XLS file to a Web or FTP site, other users can read that file only if they have Excel. To save Excel data to the Internet or to an intranet site in such a way that users can read the data in their Web browsers, you need to save it in HTML, the markup language of the Internet.

Considering the Options

When it comes to posting Excel documents to the Internet, Excel gives you lots of choices. You can save a file or publish it; you can save or publish it with or without interactivity. However you save or publish it, you can send the whole workbook to HTML, or just a part of it. You also can choose to use or ignore a Web Archive format introduced with Excel 2002. The following sections present some questions to consider as you work your way through the maze of options.
