Adding Text Annotations

To add a text annotation to your chart, select any part of the chart and type. Your words appear on Excel's formula bar as you type; when you press Enter, they appear within a text box. Using the handles at the perimeter of the box, you can move the annotation to whatever location suits your purposes. If you change the size or location of your chart, Excel does its best to maintain the position of your annotation relative to other components of the chart, but it cannot do this perfectly. If you're planning to annotate your charts with text, the best practice is to finalize the size and position of the chart before adding your text.

You can also add text annotations by clicking the Text Box tool on the Drawing toolbar, drawing out a rectangle on the chart, and typing within the resulting rectangle. This approach is functionally equivalent to the approach just described.
