Chapter 10. Creating Spiffy Graphics > Inserting Other Objects

Inserting Other Objects

The Object command on the Insert menu gives you direct access to other applications you can use to create objects. The difference between inserting a picture and inserting an object is that a picture is always static and cannot be directly edited or updated (although you can copy it to another program and edit it there), whereas an inserted object retains a connection to its source application. You can open an embedded object for editing by double-clicking it.

When you choose Insert, Object, a dialog box appears with two tabs—Create New and Create From File. The Create New tab, shown in Figure 10-24, turns on an application and then creates the object directly in the selected application. You select an application in the Object Type list. The contents of this list box vary depending on the configuration of your system and the applications you have installed.
