Chapter 24. Basic Charting Techniques > Working with Embedded Chart Objects

Working with Embedded Chart Objects

As mentioned, a chart embedded on a worksheet is an object, just like an embedded picture, calendar control, or anything else that you might add to your worksheet via the Insert, Object command. You can assign a macro to it, and move it forward or back relative to other objects, by using the same kinds of actions that you would apply to other kinds of objects. For details about working with objects, see Chapter 9, “Advanced Formatting and Editing Techniques.”

The one important point you have to remember about working with a chart object is that to select it as an object, you need to hold down Ctrl while you click. Otherwise, you'll be selecting an element of the chart, not the entire object. When you've selected the object, white (clear) handles appear around its perimeter, and a name, such as “Chart 1,” appears in the name box. If you see black handles around the chart, you've selected the chart area (an element of the chart), not the chart object.
