Formatting a PivotTable

You can use standard formatting commands to modify the appearance of cells in a PivotTable. Excel retains your formatting preferences when you pivot your table, provided you have not cleared the Preserve Formatting check box in the PivotTable Options dialog box. If you find your formats disappearing when you pivot, choose PivotTable, Table Options, and select the Preserve Formatting check box.

Using AutoFormat with PivotTables

Excel provides 21 autoformatting options for PivotTables. You can apply these by selecting any cell in a table and choosing PivotTable, Format Report (or clicking the Format Report tool on the PivotTable toolbar). To remove autoformatting from a PivotTable, open the AutoFormat dialog box and select None; it's the last option in the gallery.
