Chapter 12. Preparing to Print > About PDF Optimizer

73. About PDF Optimizer

NOTE

Exercise caution when compressing images in documents that will be output to commercial printers because some compression methods can make an image unusable in certain print production work flows. Never save an optimized PDF document over the original, unless you are certain that the document does not contain any problematic image compression. You should always talk to your print professional before optimizing any PDF documents you will be sending them.

PDF Optimizer is a feature that can produce smaller and more efficient PDF documents. Unnecessary fonts are unembedded; images are compressed; and extraneous PDF objects, such as embedded thumbnails, hidden layers, and external cross references, are removed.
