Portable Document Format (PDF) was created by Adobe Systems to establish a universal file format that is accessible by anyone on any computer running almost any operating system in the world (as long as the free Adobe Reader program is installed, which is available to download at http://www.adobe.com/reader). In addition to this universal accessibility, the two other primary reasons to create a PDF version of a document is that the PDF format preserves both the appearance and formatting integrity of the original source document.
