One cynical way to describe a mail merge is that it has the capability to irritate thousands of people, individually and by name. Mail merges can also be good for many legitimate purposes, particularly when addressed to willing recipients. In this example, you are preparing a main document to be sent to the people who have registered for a conference. In 51 Designate a Data Source, you'll match the letter you write here with the list of names and addresses, also called the data source.
